A word about the face photos

Move in close and fill up the frame

We the people of Horizons are all engaged in leadership work. We are leading, uniquely and variously, an always-renewable spirit of democratic principles and practices in Human Development, with the focus at Horizons in areas of social welfare and social justice. For the long term we all are working, uniquely and variously, to increase the knowledge and support needed to create system-wide improvements that address basic human needs.

Most immediately of course, in this lovely volume of Human First, we altogether are affirming the ways people uniquely and variously lead the action of building community by demonstrating how we express the values of care—the values of receiving and giving care, the human artistry in giving to and receiving from others.

The face portraits affirm the value of nurturing human development, the importance of moving in close to fill up the frame—boldly. The snapshots form a splendid picture of human complexity and wonder. They offer a portrait of human richness, a picture of the resources unlimited called the people of Horizons.

There is a growing sense of fullness about how best to meet the future leadership demands in social welfare and social justice. There is hard work in questioning and envisioning how best to meet those critical demands through the fullness of leadership. One answer is in the photos—full, various, unique. It is an honor to be present to this rich feast of faces.
